The Industry Advocate Act provides the Industry Advocate with the ability to recommend reforms to State Government procurement practices and ensure commitments made by contractors through Industry Participation Plans are acted upon.
Approximately 96% of South Australian businesses are small to medium sized businesses and many are seeking to participate in a larger number of government contracts.
The South Australian Industry Participation Policy (SAIPP) focuses on the economic benefit to the State. The SAIPP has been recently been revised to incorporate the strategic procurement policies regarding steel, regional development, Aboriginal participation, innovation and growth, investment attraction and economic participation regions into a single, comprehensive framework.
The Act sets out the objectives of the South Australian Industry Participation Policy and confirms the South Australian Government’s commitment to the establishment and maintenance of the policy. It also establishes the Industry Advocate as a statutory position with specific functions and powers to further the objectives of the South Australian Industry Participation Policy.
