With their main manufacturing facility located in Plympton, South Australia, the site incorporates leading global technology and processing and carries the highest level of quality and environmental certification. UCI Manufacturing employ 50 team members.
The majority of UCI Manufacturing’s product is produced from raw materials and made in-house in their Adelaide facility from scratch. UCI Manufacturing maintains a 98% SA-based supply chain, with all of our raw steel and aluminium being sourced from Bluescope in O’Sullivan’s Beach SA, and Capral in Angaston SA.
UCI have been attending the Meet the Buyer event since the first event was launched. Jessamy Wood said ‘the events are getting better over time, and the information sharing between agencies and suppliers has always been very easy and open in terms of gaining information both on upcoming opportunities and procurement contact information, while being provided an opportunity to promote your business brand and capability to procurement and project teams that you would not typically get a chance to get in front of without prior introduction.’
While UCI work directly with government agencies, a lot of their work is also garnered through architectural specification, Jessamy Wood stated ‘we’re excited the Office of the Industry Advocate is educating the design community regarding state-based supply options and the benefit to sourcing from South Australian companies, as well as providing tools for finding our brand and product rating through their online South Australian Product Rating register.’
UCI have employed a displaced worker from the automotive industry to assist with their upholstery division. They found the worker originally through interaction with the Office of the Industry Advocate and the Industry Capability Network, who facilitated the introduction. The automotive industry skill base has been a positive disrupter in improving their approach to specific upholstery tasks increasing quality and productivity, as well as improving their manufacturing capability and allowing them to train and up-skill existing workers on the job. It has been a positive experience which will allow UCI to continue to approach recruitment across different manufacturing disciplines with an open mind.
