Local Businesses to benefit from the $692m Building Better Schools Program
The Liberal government have confirmed they will support the roll out of the Building Better Schools program in line with the commitment made prior to the state election.
The Office of the Industry Advocate will ensure local builders, sub-contractors and suppliers are given every opportunity to be involved. If your business manufactures, assembles, supplies and installs products in South Australia there has never been a better time to make sure your business has the exposure it needs. The Office of the Industry Advocate will be directing all enquiries from architects, specifiers, project managers etc for the project to our new SA Product Register, so it is critical businesses have been proactive and registered with us and updated their website accordingly.
Please share this information with other businesses you know who meet this criteria.
The Building Better Schools program will upgrade facilities at 91 schools, providing South Australian students with the best in contemporary learning environments and teaching spaces to learn the skills they need in the jobs of tomorrow. This is particularly important as the need for skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is growing.
What will be upgraded?
Upgrades will be tailored to each school and may include:
- removal of old relocatable or modular classrooms
- new buildings for schools with growing student numbers
- refurbishing of classrooms and buildings transforming into modern learning areas
- landscaping and upgrades of the street frontage to create a vibrant entry.
Funding allocated to a school covers all costs, including:
- power upgrades
- asbestos removal
- new furniture
- new fittings
- new equipment including ICT.
Because each school upgrade will be different, there are opportunities for businesses of all sizes to be involved. With upgrades planned for metropolitan and regional schools, there are many opportunities for businesses from all across South Australia to take part.
