SA Product Register is live
During 2017 I advocated strongly for design to be incorporated into the South Australian Industry Participation Policy. In my opinion whether it’s the design of a building, landscaping, an office fit-out or the purchase of ICT systems, design should incorporate economic outcomes to the State and this must be at the forefront of procurement decision-making process.
The revised South Australian Industry Participation Policy now requires government agencies and authorities to ensure design of technical specifications and project requirements should provide suppliers which have employed or invested in South Australia with an opportunity to win contracts and sub-contracts. More importantly the policy states to have maximum impact, project design specifications should not be an obstacle to the South Australian supply of required goods or services.
To support this objective my Office this week launched the new SA Product Register – this another feature to our very successful Connecting with Business program, which includes Meet the Buyer and Supplying to Government Workshops. The establishment of the SA Product Register will highlight businesses in the State employing South Australians. It will commence with businesses in the Building and Construction industry who manufacture, assemble, supply, distribute and install products in the South Australia. It is now a requirement of State Government procurement staff, or architects, designers or specifiers to consider this when designing or specifying a government project.
The register will be rolled out to other industry sectors in the future. To register your business click here.
