Purchasing from locally-based suppliers and those who source local inputs is a real and significant way that we can all contribute to the creation and retention of jobs in South Australia, as well as ensure economic benefits are retained in South Australia.

The SA Product Register will provide a simple system to identify products manufactured and supplied from within the State. It is designed to measure jobs or labour hours at each critical point of the supply chain including manufacture, assembly, supply or distribution and installation.

It will provide a practical way for anyone who might be designing a building, landscaping, working on an office fit-out, procuring solar systems, wanting a technology solution or even buying office supplies to find local manufacturers and suppliers.

The register provides one central point where architects, quantity surveyors and builders can access information about locally manufactured and supplied products and, where appropriate, incorporate local products into design specifications.

While the Product Register is an initiative of the South Australian Government’s Industry Advocate and is planned for use by government agencies, it will be free for other levels of government and the private sector to access, noting the important contribution local businesses make to our economy.

The building and construction sector will be the first industry for the Product Register to be trialled as is it consists of a broad range of suppliers and inputs ranging from the production of building materials like steel, timber, cement, bricks right through to building components such as doors, windows, electrical, plumbing supplies and interior fit-out.

The South Australian Product Register is FREE to register and will provide maximum visibility to the State Government and lead contractors that are responsible for purchasing products for projects.

Once a business is registered, their website updated and approved (as per the compliance tab on the website) there will be two views of that business on our website, as outlined below:

Firstly, as a thumbnail grouped with other businesses who are part of the supply chain in a particular product category as per the below image. Please note, it is important that in the first few words of your business description, that you note what part of the supply chain the businesses products apply to:

The second part of the website will allow the business the opportunity to provide more detail about their range of products, this page will be visible when a user clicks on the 'thumbnail' of the business, as per the below example:
